A website that clearly organizes a wide range of information, remains easy to maintain internally, and visibly enhances your organization’s profile.
The Benefits

Degree programs, research, events, applications—educational institutions have a lot of information to share. A well-designed information architecture guides students, faculty, and prospective students exactly where they want to go.

With flexible templates based on ACF, your team can update content on its own—without any technical knowledge and without needing outside help for every change.

Your website aligns aesthetically with your corporate design and reinforces the image of your organization—with a modern, professional, and accessible design.
Your Project
For universities, academies, and educational institutions, having their own website is much more than just a business card: It is a central source of information for students, faculty, and applicants—and plays a key role in shaping how the institution is perceived by the outside world. Anyone interested in pursuing a degree or continuing education first looks for information online and often decides, based on the website, whether an institution is a good fit for them.
As a web designer and WordPress freelancer, I develop websites for educational institutions that clearly organize their diverse content while also being easy to maintain internally. At universities in particular, many people work on the content—which is why I build flexible templates using Advanced Custom Fields that the team can edit without any technical knowledge, while maintaining a consistent design.
A real-world example is the website of the Humanist University of Berlin, which I have been managing as a creative and technical partner since 2021. Working closely with the university team and the designer, we completely rebuilt the entire website using WordPress, Elementor Pro, and ACF—featuring a clear information architecture, accessible design, and integration with HubSpot for capturing inquiries.
Added to this are the foundations for long-term visibility and reliability: technical and content-based SEO optimization, fast loading times, compliance with data protection regulations, as well as hosting management and ongoing support. The result is a website that not only impresses at launch but also reliably grows with your business for years to come.

The Path
1. Analysis of the institution, target groups, and committees. In our initial consultation, we’ll clarify the structure of your university or educational institution: prospective students, current students, faculty, administration, research partners, and alumni. Which degree programs or educational offerings are the focus? Which stakeholders does the website need to serve simultaneously? University websites are complex information architectures—this clarity is the foundation.
2. A concept with educational DNA. You will receive an initial web design concept with sample pages for the homepage, a degree program, and a research or subject area. University websites must be both professional and inviting, accessible in accordance with BITV and WCAG standards, and prepared to accommodate content in both English and German. The first partial invoice will be issued upon approval.
3. Implementation using WordPress & Elementor Pro. Based on this concept, we will develop program pages, research areas, a news section, a calendar of events, a directory of staff and faculty, application forms, and—if desired—multilingual support via WPML, as well as integration with campus management systems. I can provide training for your press office and academic departments.
4. SEO, Security & Launch. Before going live: Backups, hacking protection, page speed, accessibility (BITV/WCAG), and GDPR. Thematic SEO targeting degree program names and research areas will be implemented, and old URLs will be redirected. Then we’ll go live. Maintenance can be handled by your own teams or by me on an hourly basis.

Yes, that is a key part of my work for educational institutions. With flexible ACF templates and an introduction to WordPress, your team can update text, events, and pages on their own.
I design websites to be accessible and follow the recognized principles of accessible design. A comprehensive, legally binding accessibility certification may require additional measures depending on the facility, which we can discuss on a case-by-case basis.
Yes. I have been working with many educational institutions for years—from hosting management and day-to-day administration to the ongoing development of their websites.
Yes. Degree programs, application deadlines, course outlines, and download sections can be clearly organized—with filter options by department or degree—so that prospective students can quickly find what they're looking for.
I ensure that all essential requirements are met: a complete legal notice in accordance with Section 5 of the German Telemedia Act (TMG), a GDPR-compliant privacy policy, a cookie notice or consent banner if required, the integration of external services (Google Fonts, Maps, Analytics) in compliance with data protection regulations, and secure contact forms. For personalized legal advice, I recommend consulting a specialized attorney—I’ll reliably handle the technical implementation.
