Migrating a Website to WordPress: Secure and SEO-Friendly

Whether it's a website builder, another CMS, or a new server—I'll safely migrate your website to WordPress: with no data loss, no downtime, and a redirect strategy that protects your search rankings as much as possible.

The Trigger

Why Moving a Website Is Such a Headache

Fear of Data Loss

Years' worth of text, images, and blog posts are contained in the old website. During the migration, every piece of content will be systematically recorded, transferred, and cross-checked against the original page—nothing will be lost, nothing will be forgotten.

Google Rankings at Risk

Without proper redirects, old URLs lose the visibility you’ve worked so hard to build. That’s why every old URL should have a 301 redirect to its new destination—this clearly signals the move to Google and minimizes the risk to your rankings.

Downtime and Email Chaos

“Website offline, emails gone”—the most common concern when switching. The new website is developed alongside the old one; the switchover won’t take place until everything has been thoroughly tested. Email accounts and DNS are migrated according to a planned schedule, not as an afterthought.

The Decision

How to Migrate to WordPress Risk-Free

You’re ready to switch to WordPress, but you’re hesitant: What will happen to your content, your Google rankings, and your emails? That’s exactly why there’s a proven process in place. I’ll build your new WordPress website in parallel with your existing one —your old site will remain fully accessible until the new one goes live. Only once everything has been tested will we switch over, using clean 301 redirects so that Google and your visitors can still find every old link.

I handle migrations from website builders such as Jimdo, Wix, Squarespace, and Webflow, from other CMS platforms such as TYPO3, Joomla, and Drupal, as well as hosting and domain transfers for existing WordPress websites. As a freelancer, I’m your direct point of contact—from the initial consultation through to the follow-up review of your rankings.

Your Source System

Which System Are You Migrating From?

Every system has its own peculiarities – regarding content export, URL structure, and design reconstruction. Select your current system for details.

The Investment

How much does it cost to migrate to WordPress?

The price depends heavily on the source system, because there are two very different tasks involved:

  • Pure hosting or domain transfer (your website remains on WordPress): straightforward, billed by the hour—most are completed in a few hours.
  • Migrating from a website builder or other CMS (Jimdo, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, TYPO3, Joomla, Drupal): Technically, this is a complete rebuild—I’ll transfer all the content, but the design and templates will need to be recreated from scratch in WordPress because a third-party layout cannot be transferred 1:1. Pricing is calculated on a case-by-case basis depending on the scope of work, with a binding range estimate.

After the free initial consultation, you’ll receive a binding quote with a clearly defined scope of services—with no hidden costs. I charge a transparent rate of €100 per hour for ongoing work after the move. See all prices at a glance: Web Design Costs.

Frequently Asked Questions About Migrating a Website to WordPress

There’s always some residual risk with any site migration, because Google re-evaluates a migrated website. However, with a well-designed 301 redirect strategy, carried-over metadata, and monitoring via Google Search Console, this risk can be minimized. Temporary fluctuations in the first few weeks are normal—that’s why I monitor the rankings after the site goes live and make adjustments if individual pages drop in rank.

Virtually none at all. The new WordPress website is built in parallel while your existing site continues to run as usual. When the site goes live, only the domain is switched over—this takes just a few minutes and is scheduled for a time when traffic is low.

All content: text, images, blog posts, page structure, and—to the extent technically possible—metadata. The design and templates are recreated individually in WordPress, as a modular or CMS layout cannot be transferred exactly as-is; features such as forms or booking systems are rebuilt from scratch and are usually improved. The proposal clearly outlines what elements will be carried over.

Small websites with up to about ten pages start at €1,500 net; medium-sized websites with 10 to 30 pages and SEO migration range from €2,500 to €5,000. A simple hosting or domain change for an existing WordPress website is billed on a time-and-materials basis—usually a few hours at 95 € net. Migrating from a website builder or other CMS is a complete rebuild: I’ll transfer all content, and the design and templates will be recreated from scratch in WordPress. After the free initial consultation, you’ll receive a binding quote with a range estimate.

From website builders like Jimdo, Wix, Squarespace, and Webflow, to other CMS platforms like TYPO3, Joomla, and Drupal—and, of course, I can migrate existing WordPress websites to new hosting providers or domains. It’s worth sending an inquiry even for systems not listed here.

Usually, yes—website builders like Jimdo or Wix include their own hosting, which you’ll no longer need once you switch. I’ll recommend a suitable WordPress hosting plan (realistically €5–25 per month), set it up for you, and, if you’d like, migrate your email accounts as well.

Migrating from a website builder or another CMS to WordPress typically takes me 3 to 8 weeks, depending on the size of your site and the availability of your content. A simple hosting or domain change for an existing WordPress website can usually be completed in a few hours. Your existing website will remain accessible at all times during this process.

Yes. Your domain belongs to you and can be transferred to any other provider using an auth code. I’ll coordinate the transfer so that your website and email continue to function without interruption—the switch won’t take place until the new WordPress website has been fully tested.

All mailboxes, aliases, and forwardings are recorded in advance, set up in the new configuration, and the MX records are updated to ensure that no emails are lost. Upon request, I can also transfer the mailbox contents—or the emails can remain with the previous provider while only the website is moved.

Three access points: to the existing system or modular platform, to the domain, DNS, and hosting, and—if available—to Google Search Console and Analytics. I’ll take care of everything else: backing up content, setting up redirects, and updating email records. We’ll determine exactly which access points you need during a free initial consultation.
